Fantastic! And goes a long way in explaining how evil becomes normalised. I wonder about the tipping point in social settings where whole societies’ descent into complete evil is assured …eg., at what point was nazi germany’s horrific end game a given? And when is it time to get the hell out?

Thank you so much, Reena! That’s a great question, I really have no idea. Do you have any theories?

Who could say how many Nazi-like civilizations were prevented at the last minute? What does seem to be true is, the desire to do evil doesn’t need to be added to people — it just needs to be released, justified, made socially permissible. Perhaps ”which evils are socially fashionable” point toward the end result, more or less clearly. The state-sponsored fashionable evils worry me more than the grassroots responses to those.

I don’t know either but would be useful knowledge except for where else would one go? Perhaps simply prepare for it differently… don’t really know.

On the one hand the rumors of the demise/descent of usa are (often) greatly exaggerated (after all it survived the civil war, the upheaval of the 60s/70s, etc) yet on the other hand a takeover of its institutions by evil ideas seems more complete and the collusion of the state and its corporatist cronies (so called capitalists) suggests this time it’s different. Someone pointed out that in the 60s even the student protests were actually anti-establishment but this time they’re actually aligned with the establishment in a grand hoax ie., the same kids go on to have careers and power within these very institutions whose ways they’re supposedly protesting… so … but I don’t know.
